About this grant
The project goal is to increase capacity and motivation of young people to promote accountability of local government in Russia. InEca-consulting will work in three communities in Western Siberia to introduce effective techniques for using public hearings and other mechanisms to engage citizens in local government decisionmaking. At the same time, it will work closely with local authorities to demonstrate the positive benefits of civic engagement. Together, youth organizations, citizens groups, and local officials will identify priority issues and will implement pilot projects aimed at their resolution. Established in 1995 and located in the industrial and mining region of Kemerovo in Western Siberia, the grantee works to promote efficient environmental management practices and effective public participation procedures. It operates in conjunction with Information Ecological Agency, which implements civic engagement and environmental information projects on a not-for-profit basis.
