About this grant
In developing the Genesee County Land Bank, Genesee County initiated a program for urban land reform that has become a national model. As a result, Genesee County has seen the rehabilitation of formerly abandoned houses, conveyance of hundreds of side lots to next-door neighbors, demolition of hundreds of abandoned structures, maintenance of thousands of empty lots, development of neighborhood greening and gardening projects, and other development projects. This model has spread to at least ten communities in Michigan. The purpose of this grant to Genesee Institute is to provide partial funding for the provision of technical assistance to up to ten additional communities to help them create or sustain a land bank authority.
