About this grant
The program goal is to develop the potential of primary and secondary schools to be catalysts for increased openness, tolerance, inclusiveness, and participatory decisionmaking in local communities in Bosnia-Herzegovina. To this end, the International Association "Interactive Open Schools", based in Tuzla, Bosnia-Herzegovina, will work with more than 30 schools in Tuzla to conduct training, create networking opportunities, and provide informational resources to teachers and school administrators as well as parents and students. The grantee will also be a resource for schools and other nonprofits working in the field of education in Croatia, Serbia, and the wider Balkan region. In 2011-2012, the grantee provided educational and support services to school administrators, teachers, and school clubs and associations and disseminated information and resources regionally. The grantee is part of the broader community school movement in Central and Eastern Europe and Russia that, during the past two years, has developed comprehensive quality standards for open, community-based schools.
