About this grant

This grant will support Citizen Schools in producing two reports that discuss issues accompanying expanded learning time and the research impact that expanded learning time has in their piloted schools. Citizen Schools is a national network of afterschool education programs for middle school students that complement classroom learning by engaging students in hands-on learning projects, and that works with schools to integrate afterschool education into a longer school day and year for all students. Specifically, this project will provide a research-based issue brief on the benefits and challenges of integrating afterschool education with the school day, and a policy paper targeted at district, state, and federal policymakers, other philanthropic organizations, and educational evaluators about the benefits of expanded learning time and how expanded learning time can inform educational restructuring.
