About this grant

This grant will support the San Francisco School Alliance in implementing the San Francisco New Day for Learning initiative. This initiative seeks to create cohesive, protected pathways for students to learn morning through night, year-round, in settings throughout the city of San Francisco. The grantee will develop, pilot, communicate, and disseminate a concrete, leading-edge, out-of-the-box educational model for a New Day for Learning in San Francisco, and also realign policy, program, and funding levers necessary to institutionalize out-of-school time initiatives and replicate its New Day for Learning educational model. Collaborative partners include the San Francisco Unified School District; the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and Their Families; San Francisco Communities of Opportunity; and the Office of the Mayor of San Francisco. As part of this initiative, San Francisco will be in a learning community of eight other district-community partnerships that includes Flint, Michigan. The project will provide policymakers and practitioners with tangible, visible examples of the value of strengthening the linkages between afterschool and education.
