About this grant
The program goal is to promote and develop independent civic action in Central and Eastern Europe. To this end, the VIA Foundation will increase the capacity of leading nongovernmental organizations in the region to provide effective capacity building programs and development assistance to nonprofits in their respective countries. Also, the grantee will expand the geographic scope of the program to include participants from 19 countries from both Western and Eastern Europe, including Belarus, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Ukraine. During the previous grant period, the grantee created successful partnerships with nonprofit capacity building providers in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia and helped them develop more effective programs and services for their beneficiaries. Since its establishment in 1997, the grantee supported more than 2,100 projects of nonprofit organizations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Ukraine with grants and technical assistance. The VIA Foundation is based in Prague, Czech Republic.
