About this grant
The program goal is to promote and develop independent civic action in Central and Eastern Europe. To this end, the VIA Foundation will strengthen the capacity of leading nongovernmental organizations in the region to provide effective capacity building programs and development assistance to nonprofits in their respective countries. Initially, the program will include participants from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, and Slovakia, where the grantee has already established good working relationships with local partners. In the next phase, the program will be opened to other countries in the region as well. Since its establishment in 1997, the grantee has provided grants to more than 2,000 projects of nonprofit organizations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Ukraine. In addition to grant support, the grantee provides capacity building and networking opportunities to its grantees and actively participates in policy development relating to civil society and philanthropy. The VIA Foundation is based in Prague, Czech Republic.
