About this grant

This grant supports the Urban Alternatives House, a green renovation project operated by the University of Michigan-Flint. Originating in 2009 with funding from the Kresge Foundation’s Green Building Initiative, University of Michigan-Flint began the process of renovating a formerly abandoned property (519 Garland Street) in the historic Carriage Town district. Unfortunately, that property was destroyed by arson and the collaborative team began looking for a new location. Currently on 924 Eddy Street in the Central Park neighborhood, a new property has been identified that, once renovated, will house the new Urban Alternatives House project. The mission of the project is to teach sustainable living to Flint area secondary and post-secondary students and support green building practices for renovations and demolitions of Genesee County Land Bank-owned properties.
