About this grant
The program goal is to support new areas of cooperation between civil society organizations in the United States and Russia. The grant will support the participation of American and Russian rights activists in a civil society summit to run in parallel with the official meeting of Presidents Obama and Medvedev in July 2009. In addition to a human rights and rule of law component, the summit will involve specialists in press and new media, community development, youth empowerment and education, public health, and environment. Conference participants will identify issues and areas of common interest in which they can share experiences in order to engage cooperatively over the coming years. Established in 1962, the Center for Strategic & International Studies is a nonprofit, public policy research organization with expertise on a wide range of defense and security, regional stability, and transnational issues and challenges.
