About this grant
Over the last dozen years, a number of new ideas and strategies have emerged to fight poverty, evolving well beyond the cash support of the welfare era. Extending support to the working poor through refundable tax credits and other work supports, building programs to enhance the mobility of individuals to more supportive labor markets, helping families build a base of assets, and other initiatives are intended not only to lift households temporarily above the poverty line, but also to break the multigenerational cycle of poverty and build a platform for economic success. For its September 2009 issue, The "American Prospect" is preparing a special report highlighting many of these new approaches to poverty. This grant will support production of the special report, as well as its dissemination within the low-income advocacy community, among policymakers, and among relevant media outlets.
