About this grant
The city of Flint is facing a significant public safety challenge. Crime and violence are increasing across the city, while the city’s budget crisis has caused a simultaneous reduction in the police force and public safety resources. Newly elected Mayor Dayne Walling is addressing the issue by reviving community policing and neighborhood foot patrols. The Flint 21st Century Community Policing effort will work in collaboration with the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice to operate in all nine wards of the city to reduce all categories of crime through community policing efforts.
