About this grant
This grant will support the Clean and Green Partnership at the Genesee County Land Bank Authority. With about 18,000 abandoned properties in the city of Flint, many owned by the land bank, the city of Flint and the land bank are working cooperatively to more efficiently clean and maintain these properties. In addition to mowing weeds and removing trash from vacant lots, the grantee is boarding and securing abandoned buildings, completing minor renovations to houses, and preparing lots for urban gardening. While federal funds have been secured to allow the land bank to hire workers to clean up and maintain these properties, additional equipment is needed to allow them to double their workforce and the number of properties they can maintain. The grantee will hire over 100 displaced and unemployed workers for this project.
