About this grant

The Black Sash Trust is a human rights organization that promotes justice and equality in South Africa. The National Alliance for the Development of Community Advice Offices, a project of Black Sash, is an alliance of organizations committed to providing access to justice for poor and marginalized people. It works to ensure the sustainability of the community-based advice office sector. The grantee believes that advice offices play a crucial role in assisting poor people to access legal advice and related services to ensure that their human rights and dignity are upheld. This grant will build the leadership and management capacity of newly established provincial advice office forums, whose role is to coordinate advice offices at a provincial level. The forums will help mobilize support to build the capacity of advice offices in an effort to make them sustainable and accountable and will create relevant platforms for engagement between advice offices and other stakeholders.
