About this grant
The Education and Training Unit focuses on democracy, development, and human rights education in South Africa. It specializes in training, facilitation, and materials development for community-based organizations, public servants, and public representatives. Past support assisted the grantee to develop and disseminate a Paralegal Training Manual to community-based paralegals, advice workers, and community activists who provide legal advice and related services to poor people. The manual was made available both online and in hard copy, and covered subjects including consumer protection, land, housing, and family law. Over the next two years, the grantee will provide community advice offices and other community-based organizations with simple, accurate, and up-to-date information on all aspects of the law that affect poor people. It will update and disseminate a revised Paralegal Training Manual, train users of the manual as requested, and continuously update materials online to cover new laws and other relevant topical information.
