About this grant
This grant will enable Career Alliance, Inc., to continue the Earn & Learn Initiative in Flint and Genesee County targeting disconnected youth ages 18-24, unemployed adults (particularly minority males), and ex-offenders re-entering the workforce. In the first year of this initiative, Career Alliance, Inc., provided 278 individuals with training, subsidized employment and credentialing opportunities in career pathways such as construction and healthcare. The initiative is designed to spark immediate entry-level work opportunities while simultaneously increasing participants’ skills and helping them manage barriers to success. This grant will enable the grantee to assist current and an additional 150 participants in maintaining and/or enhancing their work skills to make the transition from subsidized employment to more permanent job placements. The Foundation’s investment in this initiative will be matched 1:1 by both the Open Society Foundations and the state of Michigan.
