About this grant
The city of Flint continues to face a significant public safety challenge. Crime and violence across the city remains disproportionately high, while the city’s ongoing budget crisis has caused a severely limited police force. With technical assistance from Michigan State University’s Department of Criminology, the city of Flint’s emergency manager and a new police chief continue to view public safety as a high priority for the city. This renewal grant will support a sixth year of training, technology system upgrades, technical assistance, and evaluation to assist the city of Flint in implementing important changes in its police department and other public safety functions.
