About this grant
Piloted in 2003, the Genesee County Department of Human Services Family Resource Centers were housed in an elementary or middle school and staffed by experienced social workers who provided case management services for students receiving food, cash, and medical assistance. Governor Snyder has redesigned the Family Resource Center model into the Pathways to Potential program, where social workers will be placed at each of the Flint elementary schools by 2013. In addition to providing cash and food benefits, social workers will assist parents with wraparound and support services, especially helping to increase the bond between educators and parents. Currently, the Pathway to Potential pilot sites in Flint are Washington, Bryant, and Durant Tuuri Mott elementary schools. One of the methods used to provide wraparound services is parent empowerment programming, which increases parental involvement. This grant will support parent empowerment programming at the three Pathways to Potential pilot sites.
