About this grant
The program goal is to encourage, support, and facilitate active civic participation that strengthens Serbia’s democratic development and European integration processes. To this end, the Heartefact Fund makes small grants to local nonprofits; organizes exchanges and study visits; and supports, develops, and produces film and theater projects. All of the grantee’s activities are designed to promote creative approaches to confront the nationalism and ethnic mistrust that characterizes the region and raise awareness of the importance of human rights’ protection. During 2010-2011, the grantee developed its grantmaking programs and supported more than 15 local projects; produced and toured a play that examines attitudes toward dealing with the conflicts of the 1990s; and organized regional festivals using art, theater, and film to raise awareness of social and political issues. With Mott support during the past two years, the fund strengthened staff and board capacities and built its national and regional network of partners and beneficiaries. Established in 2009, the grantee is based in Belgrade, Serbia, and works in Serbia and the Western Balkan region.
