About this grant
The program goal is to encourage, support, and facilitate active civic participation that strengthens Serbia’s democratic development and European integration processes. To this end, the Heartefact Fund makes small grants to local nonprofits; organizes exchanges and study visits; and supports, develops, and produces film and theater projects. All of the grantee’s activities are designed to promote creative approaches to confronting the nationalism and ethnic mistrust that characterizes the region and raise awareness about the importance of human rights protection. During 2012-2013, the grantee developed its grantmaking programs and supported more than 15 local projects annually with grants totaling over 100,000 Euros; produced and toured two new plays; organized regional festivals using art, theater, and film to raise awareness of social and political issues; and facilitated exchanges and discussions between experts and practitioners in key fields in Kosovo and Serbia. Additionally, during the past two years, the grantee engaged in strategic planning and strengthened staff and board capacities and built its national and regional network of partners and beneficiaries. Established in 2009, the grantee is based in Belgrade, Serbia, and works in Serbia and the Western Balkan region.
