About this grant
This grant will enable the University of Michigan-Flint, via the Office of Educational Opportunity Initiatives, to expand its pre-college summer residential and academic year bridge program for students from the Flint, Beecher, and Westwood Heights school districts. In 2010, 50 rising ninth-grade students participated in a linked comprehensive summer and yearlong academic pilot that enabled students to experience college, learn about the college processes, and most importantly, take academic courses for skill-building purposes. During the next phase, recommended support will enable the grantee to continue the overall program by bringing back the initial cohort of 50 students as rising tenth-graders and adding a new cohort of 50 rising ninth-graders to participate in the program during the summer of 2011 and through the subsequent 2012 academic year.
