Promoting Environmental and Social Standards in the Financial Sector

About this grant

This grant will support Urgewald’s efforts to establish strong, binding environmental and social standards for international financial institutions and to garner ongoing public support for responsible and accountable public international financial institutions. To achieve these goals, the grantee undertakes research, education, and advocacy efforts with a global network of local communities, nongovernmental organizations, and other partners. Over the past grant period, the grantee has highlighted key issues related to the scope of the World Bank Group safeguard policies and the inclusion of global norms related to indigenous communities. During this grant period, the grantee will continue its advocacy efforts to ensure strong German policies and decisions at international financial institutions, particularly related to the World Bank and other European international financial institution safeguard policy reviews.
