Promoting Environmental and Social Standards in the Financial Sector

About this grant

Urgewald works to establish strong, binding environmental and social standards for international development finance institutions and to gain ongoing public support for responsible and accountable public international financial institutions. To achieve these goals, the grantee undertakes research, education, and advocacy efforts with a global network of local communities, nongovernmental organizations, and other partners. Urgewald has played a key role in ensuring that the World Bank Group and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s environmental and social framework continue to maintain the highest standards for development finance lending. Over the next grant period, the grantee will monitor implementation of these banks’ environmental and social policies and ensure that their lending is in support of global goals on energy access.
