About this grant
Lake Superior holds ten percent of the world’s available fresh surface water and is the most pristine of all the Great Lakes. The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, founded in 1974, is a nonprofit organization that uses law, science, and research to protect Minnesota’s portion of the Lake Superior watershed. With prior support, the grantee partnered with government agencies and other nonprofits to address threats posed by mining projects, wetlands destruction, aquatic invasive species, and polluted sediment runoff. This renewal will allow the grantee to continue helping the state of Minnesota comply with the Clean Water Act, improve wetlands policies, update shoreline protections, and stop the spread of invasive species in Lake Superior.
