About this grant
The project goal is to strengthen community-based citizen self-organization and to build social capital and cohesion in Ukraine. To achieve this, the Municipal Center for Humanistic Technologies "AHALAR" will build the capacity of community leaders to be agents of participatory local development. Through its training workshops, technical assistance, and study tours, the grantee will facilitate more widespread civic engagement within participants’ respective communities. It will also seek to develop at least two urban engagement hubs drawing on the growing alumni of its training and development programs. In the period 2014-2016, over 120 community activists participated directly in the grantee’s cycle of training workshops and study tours and helped implement over 40 community-based projects. Its community action-focused website now features over 650 examples of small-scale projects and regularly attracts more than 4,000 monthly visitors. Established in 1994, the grantee is based in Chernihiv, Ukraine, and works with community leaders and activists throughout Ukraine.
