About this grant
Five Star Films is a film and video production company specializing in creative and compelling social issue documentary and educational programming for international audiences. Breaking the Rules is a 90-minute feature documentary film that tells the story of the whites who fought against apartheid as allies in the struggle for justice in South Africa. The story is told through the voices and memories of five individuals from diverse political and cultural backgrounds who expressed their opposition to apartheid in different ways. All five were born into the lives of white privilege, yet each made the choice to dedicate their lives to fight racial oppression. The film journeys through five decades of life under apartheid, starting in the 1950s until changes happened in the 1990s. This grant will support the grantee to film more footage for Breaking the Rules and to edit it.
