About this grant

The program goal is to strengthen the culture of philanthropy in Bulgaria. To this end, the Bulgarian School of Politics will strengthen the philanthropic practice of its trainees and alumni, promote strategic philanthropy among various actors in the field of philanthropy, and develop a resource center on philanthropy at the school. Past achievements include providing technical assistance to over 110 young leaders from political parties, state administration, and civil society to engage in philanthropic work; promoting new forms of philanthropic giving; and publishing research on the media coverage of philanthropy in Bulgaria. Based in Sofia, the school was established in 2001 with the mission to build a community of civic and political leaders who share democratic values and participate actively in national and international political and public life. Since 2001, more than 650 Bulgarian and 260 Central and Eastern European leaders, including members of parliament, party leaders, and civic activists, have graduated from the school. The school is engaging its trainees in philanthropic initiatives as part of the trainees’ public policy development work.
