About this grant

The World Bank and other international financial institution lending have had negative social and environmental impacts on communities in developing countries. To address these challenges, the Sierra Club Foundation’s International Financial Institution Reform Project works to ensure that the World Bank safeguard policies remain strong and are seen as the global standard for development finance. In addition, this project works to ensure that the United Nations’ Green Climate Fund adopts and implements robust standards for all of its projects. Over the last two years, there has been positive progress at the World Bank and the Green Climate Fund in developing and revising environmental and social safeguard policies and ensuring that fewer fossil fuel projects are funded.
