About this grant

The project goal is to strengthen the rule of law in Central and Eastern Europe and Russia by supporting the sustainability of a permanent institute for postgraduate education and research in Prague, Czech Republic. Since 1999, the Central and East European Law Initiative Institute has hosted more than 1,200 students from 35 countries for a variety of training courses, conferences, and seminars. Housed in a completely refurbished 19th century villa in Prague, the institute has state-of-the-art lecture halls, conference rooms, computer centers, offices, and a library, as well as nearly 40 residential rooms. During the grant period, Friends of the CEELI Institute will contribute to the sustainability of the institute by seeding the development of new courses and servicing and reducing the institute’s debt connected to its renovation over the last several years. Friends of the CEELI Institute is a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., that was set up to support the institute.
