About this grant

The project goals are to promote constructive youth activism, provide civic education, and engage young people in the work of civil society organizations in Kosovo. Through this project, the Initiative for Progress will further develop its School of Activism, which is designed to provide young people across Kosovo with the skills and confidence needed to become active citizens in their communities. During the grant period, approximately 560 young people will participate in the school. Following each session of the school, participants will engage in community activities that address a pressing need or issue. The grantee will assist participants to organize these activities. During the summer of 2011, the school gathered approximately 150 young people for a series of theoretical courses and practical, hands-on trainings and workshops designed to give them the motivation, knowledge, and skills needed to be active in their communities. A second such summer school was implemented in 2012. Follow up activities organized by the grantee with participants included creating opportunities for high school students to voice their concerns and dialogue with school officials and an awareness campaign about the hazards of smoking. The grantee is based in Ferizaj and has a project office in Pristina.
