About this grant

The project goal is to raise awareness among individual philanthropists around the world about the value of community foundations. To this end, the Synergos Institute is working to connect global philanthropists with existing community foundations in the countries where they reside and the regions of their philanthropy in the developing world. In the project’s first phase, the grantee identified and surveyed over 70 persons involved in either global or community philanthropy, drawing mainly from its Global Philanthropists Circle and Senior Fellows Program. Many were brought together in focus groups at events in Mexico, Brazil, India, and the United States. In the next phase, the grantee will conduct at least four more regional convenings, survey participants, and broadly disseminate findings and recommendations. Founded in 1986, the Synergos Institute promotes collaborative approaches that bring rich and poor together, along with other relevant groups and institutions, to overcome poverty and foster sustainable development in developing countries.
