About this grant

The Constitutional Court Trust was established in 1995, and its objective is to promote the rule of law, constitutionalism, and judicial independence in the African region. This grant increase will support the completion of the Audible Legacy project, whose aim is to capture the memories and experiences of the judges of South Africa’ s first Constitutional Court, their successors, and others who were active during the formative years of the court. These records will be collated into an oral history of the court, covering the period from inception to the end of the first period of the court’s existence. The collection will be housed in the Constitutional Court Library and at the University of the Witwatersrand for access via digital catalogue and possible remote access. The materials will be made available to scholars and the general public at no cost.
