About this grant
The project goal is to foster citizen participation in local communities in Ukraine. To this end, the Institute of Socio-Cultural Management will train a new cohort of 40 community activists, or social animators, as part of its School of Civic Participation. In addition, it will conduct a training-of-trainers workshop for 20 graduates of the first two sessions of the school. Participants will receive ongoing technical assistance in pursuing their community development projects. Successful examples of community mobilization in Ukraine will be regularly disseminated through publications and a dedicated Web site. Since 2012, the grantee has trained a total of 102 social animators from 70 local communities, mostly small towns and villages in eastern and southern Ukraine. Registered in 2001 and based in Kirovograd, the Institute of Socio-Cultural Management promotes social action, accountability, and citizen participation in public life in Ukraine, with a particular focus on community-level initiatives.
