About this grant
The project goal is to foster citizen participation in local communities in Ukraine aimed at resolving issues of common concern. To this end, the Institute of Socio-Cultural Management will initially train and mentor up to 60 community activists. These activists will constitute the heart of local activity centers, which will be based within existing community institutions and will serve as focal points for facilitating community-based initiatives. Examples of best practices on community mobilization in Ukraine will subsequently be disseminated through the publication of relevant handbooks and through a dedicated Web site. The experience of community animators and highlights of projects conducted within the program will form the centerpiece of a final conference. Registered in 2001 and based in Kirovohrad, the Institute of Socio-Cultural Management promotes social action, accountability, and citizen participation in public life in Ukraine, with a particular focus on community-level initiatives.
