About this grant
Established in 1945, the Michigan Association of Planning is dedicated to promoting sound comprehensive community planning that benefits the residents of Michigan and includes opportunities for a variety of housing, employment, and commercial activities, as well as cultural and recreational amenities. This renewal grant will allow the organization to continue developing and strengthening its efforts to promote model programs and approaches that intentionally integrate innovative transportation applications with the practices of healthy urban design and placemaking, with a particular interest in promoting social equity and related messaging and communications. This renewal project will include: 1) developing and sharing a common language for discussing health and equity within communities, particularly when working within transportation; 2) enhancing the use of new and different techniques for inclusive outreach and engagement during planning processes; and 3) elevating the understanding and value of incorporating health, inclusion, and fairness into planning and transportation processes among planners.
