About this grant
Michigan’s parks system preserves, protects, and showcases the state’s vast and outstanding natural resources and promotes related outdoor recreation opportunities. Michigan United Conservation Clubs, a statewide conservation group, seeks to maintain and improve these resources as a part of Michigan’s outdoor heritage. With previous Mott support, the grantee facilitated the work of Michigan’s Blue Ribbon Panel on State Parks and Outdoor Recreation. The panel’s report outlined a forward-thinking vision for Michigan parks and provided recommendations for state and county parks’ long-term success and sustainability. With renewed support, the Michigan United Conservation Clubs will help implement key recommendations by: 1) conducting program planning for a statewide initiative to engage citizens and organizations interested in natural resource protections; and 2) facilitating public participation in Michigan’s Public Land Management Plan.
