About this grant

The Cities for Financial Empowerment Coalition is a network of cities committed to advancing effective financial empowerment strategies locally and nationally. These strategies include: research on consumer banking and the use of financial services by low- and moderate-income populations; access to high quality financial information, education, and counseling; and access to savings and asset-building opportunities. This grant will enable the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan to continue promoting financial empowerment practices in Michigan and share Michigan’s lessons nationally. Mott funds will support outreach, technical assistance, and networking activities, specifically focused on children’s savings account programs. The overall goal of this project is to develop a network of local municipal leaders who are actively engaged in driving financial empowerment strategies for low- and moderate-income families throughout the state. The grantee is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to rebuilding neighborhoods and revitalizing communities throughout Michigan.
