About this grant

The Humanist Institute for Cooperation with Developing Countries (commonly referred to as HIVOS – South Africa) is part of the Dutch-based nongovernmental organization, HIVOS – Netherlands, which was established in the 1950s and works in many countries around the world to alleviate poverty and build stronger civil societies. The Multi-Agency Grants Initiative, managed by the grantee, is a collaborative venture between various donors funding in South Africa. Its purpose is to provide a responsive mechanism for making small grants to community-based organizations, including community-based advice offices. In the past year, Mott support allowed the grantee to regrant to community advice offices in the Free State province to provide free legal advice and related support to poor people. Mott funds also supported training and mentoring activities to strengthen the advice offices. This grant will support HIVOS – South Africa to continue working with advice offices in the Free State province.
