About this grant
The Humanist Institute for Cooperation with Developing Countries (commonly referred to as Hivos – South Africa) is part of the Dutch-based nongovernmental organization, Hivos – Netherlands, which was established in the 1950s and works in many countries around the world to alleviate poverty and build stronger civil societies. The Multi-Agency Grants Initiative, managed by the grantee, is a collaborative venture between various donors. Its purpose is to provide a responsive mechanism for the provision of small grants to community-based organizations, including community-based advice offices. This grant will provide financial support to community-based advice offices in the Free State province. Also, the advice offices will receive training and mentoring to help them improve their own operations, governance, and sustainability. The aim is to enhance the performance of these advice offices so that they are able to offer poor people a better and improved service based on local requirements.
