About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen the financial sustainability of the Balkan Community Initiatives Fund – Serbia, a private, independent, Serbian grantmaking foundation based in Belgrade. Through its grantmaking, training, networking assistance, and leadership, the grantee promotes active civic participation in decisionmaking and community development throughout Serbia, particularly in the country’s smaller towns and isolated regions. As part of its long-term financial sustainability strategy, the grantee will launch an endowment-building program designed to raise $750,000 over the next five years. To match the contribution from the Mott Foundation, the grantee will solicit support from individuals, corporate donors, and other donor agencies operating in Serbia. Additionally, during the grant period, the grantee will contribute a portion of the income it earns from services and rental of office space it owns. Established in 1999 as a charity registered in the United Kingdom and then subsequently registered in Serbia in 2004, the grantee has developed into one of the leading grantmakers in Serbia and the region.
