About this grant

Southern Africa Trust supports civil society organizations in southern Africa to participate effectively and with credibility in policy dialogues so that the voices of the poor can have better impact in the development of public policies. The African Grantmakers Network is a continent wide network of African grantmaking organizations established to facilitate networking and learning among these institutions. Past Mott support for the network contributed to enhancing thought leadership on African philanthropy, participation in continental and international events to advance African philanthropy, convening peer learning events on subjects like good governance and accountability, and building a repository of knowledge on African philanthropy. This grant will assist the African Grantmakers Network to: host the 2014 biennial assembly, convene peer learning events for sharing of experiences among African grantmakers, strengthen the secretariat, conduct research that will result in the establishment of a philanthropy barometer for Africa, and participate in international events to advance African philanthropy.
