About this grant

The Southern Africa Trust supports civil society organizations in southern Africa to participate effectively and with credibility in policy dialogues so that the voices of the poor can have better impact in the development of public policies. The Africa Philanthropy Network, previously known as the African Grantmakers Network, is a continent wide network of African grantmaking organizations established to facilitate networking and learning. Past support for the network contributed to the hosting of the 2015 biennial assembly, convening peer learning events for sharing of experiences among African grantmakers, strengthening the network secretariat, conducting research, and participating in international events to advance African philanthropy. This grant will assist the Africa Philanthropy Network to lead conversations to define African philanthropy and its role in the global philanthropy discourse, restructure and rebrand the network, convene leaders and wealthy Africans to discuss their role in Africa’s development, and host learning events for members.
