About this grant
The program goal is to mobilize local communities in western Ukraine to effectively address and resolve issues of common concern. General purpose support will assist the West-Ukrainian Resource Center in the fulfillment of its mission to promote the development of civil society through the support of community social and economic initiatives. It will do this through a mix of grants and capacity building in the fields of rural community development, adult education, and social integration of returning labor migrants. In 2012-2014, the grantee worked with 23 communities in five regions of Ukraine, introducing models of community self-management in the absence of local councils, as well as small-scale community economic development bodies to foster local business growth. The West-Ukrainian Resource Center was founded in 1994 as a support organization for regional nongovernmental organizations and has since become a leading resource for community development practice in Ukraine.
