About this grant

The project goal is to increase and enhance active civic participation in the development of local communities in Montenegro. To this end, Civic Alliance, a national-level nonprofit based in the capital, Podgorica, will work with three local nonprofits to deliver a set of services and information resources to citizens and civic initiatives in three communities — Bijelo Polje, Ulcinj, and Niksic. Based on the specific needs and issues in each community, the grantee and its partners will assist community-based groups and initiatives to use the media effectively, establish and run nonprofit organizations, and organize and mobilize community members around priority issues. The grantee and its partners will also assist the targeted communities by raising awareness of key local issues to the national level, particularly through national print and television media. Based in Podgorica, Civic Alliance was established in 2011 by two prominent nonprofits in Montenegro in order to take advantage of programmatic synergies and to share resources.
