About this grant
The Natural Resources Defense Council is an international environmental organization with a strong presence in the Great Lakes region. With prior Mott support, the grantee worked closely with state and local partners to improve how water quality policies are implemented in the Great Lakes states. The grantee focused its efforts on the Great Lakes Compact, an interstate agreement that limits the diversion of waters outside the Great Lakes basin and improves the management of water resources within the basin. In particular, the grantee helped analyze the region’s first out-of-basin water withdrawal request from the City of Waukesha, Wisconsin. With renewed Mott support, the grantee will continue helping states fulfill the compact’s water conservation requirements and implement other programs and policies to encourage the efficient use of water from the Great Lakes watershed.
