About this grant
The program goal is to bridge divisions in the city of Mitrovica, Kosovo, by building economic, cultural, social, and political links across this divided community. Community Building Mitrovica, a nonprofit registered in 2003 and based in Mitrovica, leads and supports a wide range of projects with a strong emphasis on the participation of people from all of the city’s ethnic groups into concrete activities and community development initiatives. The grantee’s activities during the grant period will include promoting entrepreneurship and a supportive business environment for young people and women, engaging in conflict mediation and transitional justice initiatives, strengthening accountability and transparency of governmental decisionmaking through citizen-led monitoring activities, and building the capacity of civil society in the community. Additionally, the grantee will update its strategic plan and provide training opportunities for staff. During 2014-2015, the grantee developed a toolkit for citizen-led monitoring of local government based on its experience and strengthened the business skills of 106 women through targeted training.
