About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen the voice of civil society in Central and Eastern Europe on the European Union level. To this end, the Environmental Partnership Association — a network of environmental foundations in five Central and Eastern European countries — will increase its capacity to interact with the European Union institutions, develop new partnerships with peer organizations on the European Union level, and explore various possibilities for developing a stronger future role for itself and its members on the European Union level. In addition, the grantee will promote and expand beyond its current member countries one of its environmental protection initiatives, the European Tree of the Year contest, to engage with like-minded organizations throughout Europe and strengthen its international outreach. Members of the network worked together informally from the early 1990s until 2004, when they officially established the grantee as an independent organization. The grantee’s mission is to organize and support the international cooperation of member organizations with the aim to strengthen the contributions of environmental organizations for the sustainable development of Europe. Over the years, the grantee has implemented various programs, including developing greenways and sustainable tourism and promoting alternative energy sources.
