About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen active civic participation in public policy development and implementation in Bulgaria. To this end, the Institute for Public Environment Development will monitor government policies and practices and advocate for greater transparency and accountability, produce credible data and analyses on the implementation of key government policies and programs, promote effective public policies, and advocate for greater access for citizens to public information. In addition, the grantee will strengthen its own institutional capacity and financial sustainability. The grantee was established in 2003 with the mission to promote civic participation and democratic accountability in public institutions in Bulgaria. During the past grant period, the grantee provided technical assistance to a number of public institutions to open large data sets to the public; trained nonprofits and journalists to process, analyze, and visualize open data; and monitored the implementation of various public policies and published its analyses in various media. The grantee is based in Sofia, Bulgaria.
