About this grant
This grant will fund predevelopment expenses related to the redevelopment of the Flint Journal properties and surrounding area, a $32 million project that will create a health, education, and wellness district in downtown Flint. The project includes three major components: 1) renovation of the former Flint Journal headquarters building into office space for the new Michigan State University Flint Public Health and Medical Campus; 2) reuse of the Flint Journal printing press building as the new home of the Flint Farmer’s Market; and 3) demolition of the Genesee Towers building and creation of an urban park space. The project is in keeping with recommendations laid out in Sasaki and Associate’s master plan for downtown Flint, and its subsequent site plan for the project area. The Foundation for the Uptown Reinvestment Corporation receives and administers funds for charitable purposes and for the public welfare of Genesee County, Michigan, including support for the Uptown Reinvestment Corporation.
