About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen active civic participation on the local and national levels in Romania. To this end, the Resource Center for Public Participation will build the capacity of nongovernmental organizations and civic groups to participate effectively in decisionmaking, monitor key public institutions and advocate for greater transparency and responsiveness to citizens’ voices, and promote civic participation as a key element of a functioning democracy. The grantee’s mission is to support public participation in policymaking and decision making and to promote greater transparency and accountability of public institutions. During the previous grant period, the grantee built the capacity of over 30 nonprofit organizations, civic groups, and individual leaders to advocate on a wide variety of issues of public interest; facilitated nonprofit coalitions to engage in policy discussions with the government on the local and national levels; and advocated for transparency of the decisionmaking processes in the public sector. The center is based in Bucharest, Romania.
