About this grant

The program goal is to strengthen active civic participation on the local and national levels in Romania. To this end, the Resource Center for Public Participation will build the capacity of nongovernmental organizations and civic groups to participate effectively in decisionmaking, monitor key public institutions and advocate for greater transparency and responsiveness to citizens’ voices, and promote civic participation as a key element of a functioning democracy. The grantee was established in 2006 as a successor to the civil society program of the National Democratic Institute. The grantee’s mission is to support public participation in policymaking and decisionmaking and to promote greater transparency and accountability of the public institutions. In the past six years, the grantee pioneered and developed community organizing in Romania. In addition, the grantee has a strong track record in developing and implementing programs that address issues of corruption and inefficiency in the public sector. The grantee is based in Bucharest, Romania.
